Golden Retriever Given To Humane Society With Wire
MILWAUKEE --
The Wisconsin Humane Society is nursing a dog back to health after employees found wire embedded in its fur.
Someone gave the golden retriever named Carmen to the shelter over the weekend.
On Wednesday, staffers noticed a strange texture to the dog's fur and found coils of wire and pieces of mesh screening embedded into Carmen's coat and skin.
Employees are unsure about how the wire got stuck in the dog's fur. Carmen also had open cuts and tested positive for a heartworm.
"We don't know whether it was intentional, but it was obviously neglect. The owners had to have been aware that she had wire in fur like this. There was so much wire, and they never took care of her," said Angela Speed of the Wisconsin Humane Society.
Carmen will be placed up for adoption as soon as she is healthy.
